link-buzzfeed  I'm not going to try and parse that for a quote (I hate Twitter sometimes), the gist of it is.  Naomi got an internship at NASA and tweeted "Shut the 'F' up, I just got a job at NASA", and some fella named Homer replied "language", she answered "Suck my dick and balls I'm working at NASA" and he came back with "and I am on the National Space Council that oversees NASA".....and then she got fired.  Homer had nothing to do with her losing her job, some her friends had hashtagged NASA while defending her, NASA saw that and canned her.

This is difficult but I'm leaning more towards yes.

If everyone who had been an asshole on the Internet was fired, we'd have no economy.

Or maybe we'd have fewer assholes on the internet.

If it were just a case of her using course language on the internet without referencing her employer, then yeah, she shouldn't have been fired, but that's not this case.

Fair points. This is why I consider it close. I can't help but feel some sympathy for someone who lost their internship because they got excited and wrote some stupid stuff on twitter.

Obviously the decision should've been reversed. I consider the actual reversal acceptable but clearly not far enough considering this is the premier employer in the field and the time allotted for an internship is already very brief. I hope the original offer was for next spring or summer so there is time to make full amends.

I think something should have happened so she'd learn very quickly not to behave like this, but losing her internship/job/whatever entirely? No, I don't think so.

I think there have to be limits to what you can just say on the internet with references to your employer, but punishments shouldn't be overly severe. Seriously, if NASA hadn't seen that, the world would have kept turning and it would probably have been completely forgotten as most social media exchanges between randoms are. Further, the person she was talking to not only didn't push for this action but is actually trying to get her reinstated.

I find it hard to have sympathy for someone who claims to be a citizen of this Great Country yet hasn’t seen October Sky.

Someone who applied to intern at NASA yet hasn't seen October Sky!

That said, sounds like Homer's trying to get her the job back, and I'd defer to him on this.
