I'm going to guess a KS-GOV type situation where Putnam makes it much closer than expected, but DeSantis narrowly wins.

I'm gonna go against the grain and suggest that Putnam pulls enough from the gulf coast and South Florida to offset Desantis's margins upstate

I just early voted for Putnam.  I consider him to be nothing more than "Howdy Doody", but he would be less destructive than DeSantis and actually has some knowledge of state government.

The most reason show DeSantis up on Putnam by 1 point; that's down from 2 points last week.  That suggests to me that the poll showing DeSantis up by 12 was something of an outlier.  People were actually calling on Putnam to suspend his campaign, which I thought silly.

I'll go out on a limb and pick Putnam.  He has a LOT of support from the GOP Establishment in FL and from Law Enforcement.  He was the "anointed one" before DeSantis and Trump crashed the party and a lot of FL old money has vestiture in Putnam winning.

Whilst I know 2016 GOP primary is a world apart from the 2018 one; surely the same could have been said about both Rubio and Bush?

Putnam had a lot of support; but the biggest mistake that people like us (e.g the politically obsessed make) is that it maters who State Senator X, or County Chairman Y supports. This stuff matters early in the race when you're trying to raise money, or stop people entering, but at this point everything points to DeSantis.

I agreed with you until I checked the polls on this race:

https://www.realclearpolitics.com/epolls/2018/governor/Florida.html

An important theme of these polls is that Putnam is, consistently, the stronger candidate for the general election than is DeSantis.  This is coming at a time where the strongest Democrat (Gwen Graham) leads DeSantis, but not Putnam in polling.  This news isn't getting out, but if it did, I believe Putnam would have a last minute surge.  He ran stupid attack ads on DeSantis that backfired; he should have stuck to his game plan and not been rattled by the sudden infusion of the Trump Show into the campaign.

I'm not an expert on polling, but yeah, those numbers don't represent the reality at all. I'm willing to bet DeSantis might come close to cracking 60% of the vote.
