Background: Republicans in the General Assembly passed a bill that took away the executive branch's ability to write the descriptions for two amendments Republicans are trying to ram through to give themselves the ability to pick judges for vacancies and to take away the Governor's ability to appoint election/ethics board commissioners, because they don't want Democrats controlling rulings over early voting sites or ethic disputes. Now Cooper and other groups are suing to overturn the highly misleading descriptions Republicans wrote, and Woodhouse, the chief exec of the party, seems to be casually talking about impeachment if they do that. While he is not a lawmaker, that is easily something Republican lawmakers could consider, and knowing them, they probably will.

It never seems to end with these guys. This has to be the most corrupt state party in the entire country.

The NC GOP is a great example of what happens when the voters have no standards and/or are simply ignorant and let you get away with anything because "muh (R) after name."

But Democrats need to be nice and something something respect for our instututions something something.

At this point, they really are dead men walking. NC has shown +7-+8 in the generic ballot against the legislature, which is enough to get rid of the supermajority. The good news is that this state, funny enough, is actually less gerrymandered on the legislature level than VA, and its predicted that we need around D+9.5 to take both chambers. And at this point, it seems we are heading for that magic number.

I honestly can't even imagine what a transfer of power in the legislature from Rs to Ds would look like. The NCGOP has been utterly shameless and totally corrupted in their quest for power since 2010. I wouldn't be surprised if they tried to shift even more executive responsibilities to row offices they control right now, like Treasurer and Com. of Labor, even if it meant getting struck down by the courts, because who cares. It's not like they didn't already try to take away Cooper's powers over the university/school system and shift them to newly-Republican Supt. of Pub. Inst., post-Nov 2016.

The Legion of Doom probably even thinks the North Carolina GOP needs to stop.

Yep, but the end result matters little on their actual quality. What is really gonna influence the chamber is how hated the NCGOP is, and boy, are they hated.

To give you an idea, the chamber at its current gerrymandered state and incumbents has a 2/3s majority in both chambers. To break the chambers super-majority, to take them is more difficult. According to some studies, the NC legislature is one of the most gerrymandered in the US, and would require a D+9.5-10 to break. Its actually easier to win than the VA legislature, which needed D+12.
The last poll done for the state legislature, before they started their shenanigans, was D+7. This state will definitely be in play in 2018.

Not surprising.  Like 2/3rds of the Dem votes are in one corner of the state even before you account for gerrymandering.
