He’s clearly had some unaddressed mental health issues for a while. He could probably get away with an insanity plea, but he definitely needs some serious psychiatric help.

The phrase "former lawyer" was a YUGE clue to what was going on.

I hope this man gets the help he clearly needs. Fortunate he didn’t harm his wife or children.

At least he is surprisingly self-aware of his predicament:

Probably not, he was last a ranking member in 2010-2011. However,Even if he was the chairman of the party right now I don't think it would completely damage the Party with evangelical voters.

He is a moderate Republican. He was actually kicked out of the party for not being rabid enough.

It's like a reverse Son of Sam.

Seriously though,  f*** this guy! Few things make me angrier than abuse to animals! I hope that in the unlikely event of Jesus Christ coming back, he sends this guy straight to a personal hell where he takes the form of a human-sized chew toy and is gnawed on into oblivion by hundreds of dogs.

Dude. He's crazy as a loon. Cut him some slack. What he did to the dog was awful, but he's clearly not in his right mind and had no control of himself.

Alright, sorry. It's just, like I said before, that I'm a sucker for animals.
