Is this $50 billion total, or per company? In the current bill text, this is unclear.

Please advocate for your bill before the 24-hour mark passes.

Also, $50 billion is WAY too high for subsidies to private businesses.  The total cost of this bill is almost half the surplus.

I'm actually inclined to oppose this on account of the fact that the federal government already subsidizes renewable energy.

Friends,

This bill not only provides for the enhanced subsides of renewable energies(wind, solar, r&d) in order to push our great commonwealth towards green renewable energy, but also demands businesses(corporations, etc)to follow a higher standard compared to the current Green act.

Our world is warming at a rate that is going to end up killing untold numbers of people and costing Fremont hundreds of billions of dollars in the long term.  This bill will set a standard that 33% of all energy used by all businesses within the commonwealth be renewable as in hydro, wind, solar, etc by 2021. If they don't meet these standards all benefits under section two will be removed from the business.

Global warming isn't a joke and it is time to get even more serious about it.

It doesn't mean that Fremont can't do our own subsiding. The more that's spent on renewable the faster that we can turn the tide of human caused planetary warming.

I'm a little more open to the idea of this bill than Scott is but I'm not signing a 10 figure spending bill until the annual budget is done (and this will come up in the queue shortly), and even then, I'd have serious reservations.

I offer the following amendment to the bill concerning the subsides.

I might vote for the bill after seeing the new budgetary figures, because although we have a hefty surplus now I'd rather not plunge us into a deficit with all of these huge spending bills.

I will bring the budget to the floor the next time a slot becomes available.

As a member of the Fremont Green Alliance, of course I support the ethos of this bill.

In order to make it more sustainable however; perhaps it should also include some sort of a revenue mechanism that punishes businesses that excessively pollute our environment - such as a cap and trade system, or a carbon tax.

Just an idea.

Fremont already has a carbon tax on the books. Smile

This is subject to being de-funded by being omitted in the budget, so treat this like spare spending, but okay....
