To make a long story short I've been hearing since 2008 that Texas is trending Democratic and at some point it would not be such an unrealistic idea for it to flip. Personally I don't buy it. I'm a skeptic when it comes to the progress of Democrats in the south. But that's why I'm here. If we assume this to be true, when can this possibly happen? The seemingly mortal locks on Illinois, New York and California already put so many electoral votes in the pockets of the Democrats and Texas well.... I think we all know what that means. But anyhow, I have to assume someone here has the scoop on the trend. Is Texas really turning purplish blue or is this just kool aid?

I do think there is a not-negligible D trend in Texas. Not enough to flip it in 2020, but something like 2028 is another story. It almost voted to the left of Ohio in 2016, if I recall correctly.

Texas will most likely trend Republican in 2020, due to “Never Trumpers” coming home to the Republican Party, once they realize Trump is governing as a generic Republican.
