How much does it matter who runs, anyway?

T.I.T.O.I.

Trump. Is. The. Only. Issue.

2020 will be a straight up referendum on Trump, period.  Trump is very capable of making his opponents to appear to be less appealing than he (Trump) is.  Something for strategists to consider.

When he goes low, he drags everyone else down with him. And Trump knows the sewer better than any other candidate.

Option 2. American voters are shallow and superficial.

Fundamentals. Voters don't care that Trump screwed a porn star, but they will care if he screws them.

Basically his record as President, which includes his legislative and administrative achievements, the effectiveness (or lack thereof) in his foreign policy, and of course the economy.

The Fundamentals are God and the candidates running are nothing but pawns at the mercy of his will.

The gaffes, scandals, candidate quality, models, polling, ''experts'', pundits, political convention, issues, charisma, appeal, etc.. are nothing when the fundamentals and national environment are against you.

It's really the only way he can win. If anything, that's how he won in 2016. And he may very well do it again.

The economy and incumbency. The middle will decide the election like they did last time. Americans won't change horses mid stream even if they don't love Trump personally because he's been an effective leader on the economy and the world stage.

LOL, please just stop. I can see the economy argument; you can make a case for that. But an effective leader on the world stage? North Korea is still working on its' nuclear program and our relationship with Canada, the EU, and other allies has taken a negative turn.

You are in for a rude awakening when you see the other posters on this forum, my friend.
And I was actually a supporter of his North Korea summit. If we were  somehow able to move towards denuclearizing the peninsula and establishing peace to both nations, I thought it would be worthwhile. However, nothing came of it. It was only a success on the most superficial, shallow level. He doesn't deserve credit for that. No such progress seems to have transpired. He is the worst deal-maker ever. But that doesn't matter to him, or to you probably. As long as he can brag about something, no matter how small or insignificant, it's good enough. And that's just pathetic.

And how did Obama do in 8 years with North Korea? Trump made more progress in a year with them Obama did in 8 years. He still has years to get it done. Kim came to the table.

Obama made a far better deal with Iran which Trump ripped up our of spite. It's clear who's the better deal maker.

Yeah, that's what I think too, but there's more of an argument there than the "world stage" aspect which was mentioned.
