Back on Disney for a moment...

Why do you like the 70's/80's era of Disney, which was often considered The Dark Ages for the company? Especially considering that Don Bluth and a good chunk of animators quit and started their own thing, Disney was dead and The Little Mermaid hadn't come out yet to typify what Disney would be

I don't get it, so I'm rather fascinated by those who find the light in such bleakness.
thinking a bit more.

great mouse detective like i said.that actually kept disney from shutting down the animation department when it came out..might be my favorite overall.vincent price and barrie ingham are great.nice visuals.funny..really i can't think of anything to criticize there.

some other movies i'm sure there's a bit of nostalgia affecting me.like robin hood obviously had a lot of its animation traced over from jungle book.or other cheap short cuts like that.even as a kid i noticed weird little things like that.but i liked it anyway

i like the style of the 60s show the best.and i liked some other elements.you get some odd villains thrown in there like the fly twins..really like that.you don't get enough of that stuff.it's not just a bunch of memes to me.

90s spider-man had some fun plots.improved on certain characters imo.like the kingpin or black cat..i thought those were better than a lot of versions.also the venom storyline was so much better than the actual original storyline that other adaptations borrowed from it.but it definitely has problems.the cgi didn't look good even then.they also had to deal with network censorship and some other stuff..definitely a mixed bag.

spectacular?its been awhile..i remember it being pretty good for what it was but the art style also kind of detracts for me.very cartoony.i mean i enjoyed some spider-man comics that were more along those lines style wise..the mike wieringo ones in particular, when he was doing sensational.so i can kinda tolerate it.but it is a bit distracting.

i think i might say the 90s one is my favorite of those 3 if put on the spot..but i'd have to look at them a bit more to really give you a strong answer.as it is growing up my actual favorite spider-man cartoon was probably the amazing friends on vhs.tbh

Spectacular in my opinion was by far the most serious out of all of them

the more i watch of the 60s cartoon the more i like it.i mean what even is pardo.

crazy.original villains are more interesting to me in general than just adapting idk, green goblin or the joker for the 50th time for tv.they could have been a lot lazier but no.instead we got totally bizarre stuff like this

I assumed back then it was a caricature of the famous TV announcer Don Pardo. In the 60's he was the announcer for Bill Cullen's The Price is Right and then Art Fleming's Jeopardy. Most people now know Don Pardo as the longtime voice of Saturday Night Live.

Where do you get access to this?

And thoughts on Venture Brothers?

found the pic off marvel wiki.edited it just now so i don't leech bandwith.

venture bros is interesting to me.i mean my instinct was to say it seemed hacky when i saw it.but thematically it's interesting.there's too much going on to totally dismiss it.i like that idea of failure and how they tied it into the 60s..sounds like a very boomer sentiment, that we didn't get the future we were promised in the mid 20th century.squandered potential and all that.but they did something with it which you don't really see nearly enough of

I meant to ask where you get access to episodes of the 60’s Spidey cartoon, not the picture itself.

i prefer norstein..but there's definitely something to be said for her.there can be kind of a hypnotic quality to her work.i think my favorite so far was hansel and gretel, but i haven't seen all of her shorts

i remember it being pretty hit or miss in terms of the visuals.the rotoscoping is awkward in points.on the other hand there's a richness to the color that i don't think live action captures at all..and jackson is kinda overrated in my opinion.

but i would need to watch it again to really give you a substantive answer.i'll get on that

It's not animated, but how was Superman II viewed at the time? It seems to be considered the best of those live action ones nowadays.

mostly positive.but definitely not as positively as now..which isn't terribly surprising given when it came out.if you look around you'll see that the washington post and a number of other papers didn't care for it.while i remember enjoying the film i also think we've... lost something with film criticism.for a number of reasons.and some of that is just fear on the part of critics

keep in mind a number of people criticized the 2nd star wars that year.i mean in some ways that was a holdover from earlier years, bias against genre fixation.which can be a problem sometimes.but i kind of think critics have overcompensated in recent years.and the group think is arguably worse now..on top of seeing a general degradation in the quality of film analysis since the 70s-early 80s
