If Donald Trump was removed from office by legal means, how does his base of deplorables react? Would they burn down the country?

We'd probably see massive riots and violence (especially against minorities), some local uprisings attempted, then a decades-long terrorist campaign similar to the Klan era but on a potentially larger scale.

We’d probably just move on with our lives, like we did after 2008 and 2012. You see, Republicans don’t have the option of crying like babies when things don’t go our way. We don’t have special investigations when we lose elections, either. We pretty much just have to suck it up, because if our side acts like the Dems did after 2016, it is seen as an attack on democracy.

Were you asleep during the Benghazi hearings? Or when right wing millionaires spend millions trying to find dirt on Bill Clinton after he won in 1992, or heck when Trump claimed he lost the popular vote because 3 million people 'illegals' voted.

Besides a republican Attorney General appointed a Republican prosecutor, overseen by a republican Deputy AG to investigate Russia, and Trump. It's got  all do with the Democrats.

Since such an event could only happen if his base turns on him, it wouldn't be that traumatic. As I pointed out in another thread, even if the Democrats won every single seat they run candidates in for 2018, they'd still need quite a few Republican Senators to fire The Donald before he loses in 2020.

I think folks would generally react peacefully, think Nixon’s resignation.

This, pretty much. Of course, the same leftists in the UK are demanding a second referendum on Brexit because they are unable to accept their loss on the first referendum with class and dignity.

So that phenomenon is global in a way.

Should Donald Trump be removed from office, then Republicans will have played a role. The Democrats have no way of getting a super-majority necessary for impeachment and removal from office. Under such a scenario, Donald Trump will have been seen as attacking the norms of democracy.

I recall no special investigations of wins by Dubya in 2000 and 2004. There were rumors, but they went nowhere except into the realm of political conjecture. But, yes, there were Republicans who cried like babies about Obama, so to speak... the 'Birther' conspiracy theories were pointless, indefensible, and awful.

Democrats are looking into 2016 because much was screwy in the election, and not only that 'we lost'. But let us not forget that Robert Mueller is a Republican more loyal to rule of law and the usual decencies of liberal democracy than to the personality of the President.  Donald Trump has done nothing to win over Democrats who, like Mueller, are more loyal to the rule of law and  the usual decencies of liberal democracy.

Our President acts much like a despot or dictator -- more than any prior President. If he won because of electoral fraud, then we need to rectify the situation.

I see them crying like babies everytime I hear a "bused in voters" excuse after an election.

Also, Republicans are totally above years-long investigations into an opposition party president that eventually lead to impeachment. Instead, they investigate them over and over again before they run for president to soften them up Smile

I doubt there would be riots simply because there are very few urban amalgamations of Trump supports. If there were to be a campaign of violence, it would probably look more like the Bundy clan's antics than Ferguson.

Not to mention the "Obama can't be president because he's actually from Kenya" controversy.

Yeah, Trump's base of support would need to collapse within the Republican Party for this hypothetical to be realized. You probably get a few random crazies pulling something (don't you always?), but the notion of there being widespread rioting or other acts of violence has little basis in reality.
