This reminds of an article I read about how Betsy DeVos was bummed to learn that she couldn’t overhaul America’s public school system because DoE doesn’t really do all that much other than act as a boogeyman in right wing fever dreams
You'd think that someone taking such a high-profile policy-making job like that would do a little background work to see if it is worth their time and troubles. I don't know what, if anything, she had to do to take the job
(such as divesting from businesses/etc), but with the massive amounts of negative attention and possible business opportunities she might have to pass on, I'd have expected her to know exactly what she would be doing before accepting. Otherwise that is just pure stupidity.
It's like Tillerson, who resigned as CEO of ExxonMobil and probably gave up a decent amount of future earnings just to spend a year as
Donald Trump's Secretary of State. A whole year of shame, embarrassment and being hobbled by incompetence.
