Assuming Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker wins reelection (I think Walker wins by 6 points in a tough GOP environment), if Walker retires in 2022, do you see the Waukesha GOP machine trying to ask Paul Ryan to run for governor in 2022?

If he does he'll be running against Governor Evers and he'll still face the humiliation of being a slave to Trump.

I think Walker wins reelection, but closely.

Walker survived a recall. He knows how to win statewide. He ran a bad 2016 presidential campaign because he was not ready for primetime nationally. Walker will win by 2-6 points.

No, he is almost the same as Walker and primarying an incumbent is a horrible move.

I do think there's a strong chance Ryan runs for governor at some point. I could see either 2022 or 2026.

Ryan is retiring so he cash in whatever massive salary the Koch brothers will give him to head one the right wing think tanks they bankroll.

He's not ever getting back into electoral politics unless he thinks he can run for President down the line (which is possible but I'm skeptical). But he is most definitely not running in Wisconsin ever again

That seems like a big step down for Ryan.  I really don't think he'll do it.

Agree strongly with this. Every national-spotlight position he's taken has been with great reluctance: I think he very much wants to exculpate himself from the destruction of political norms at the hands of Trump. He's a bastard, but he's not as gleefully evil as Trump & co. or the Freedom Caucus stooges.

He just said in an interview that he's done seeking elected office, so he's going to become a billionaire now through lobbying in all likelihood.

He may run. He will definitely lose.

I think his political career is over.

Paul Ryan is another failed Republican "golden boy" (a fool's golden boy?). He needs to forget about politics entirely and stick to lifting weights and rereading his Ayn Rand novels.

He's getting out now, so he doesn't have a failed record on his resume when he runs for President in 2024.
