One of the frequent arguments against the "Muh both parties same" thinking by the Hillaryesque wing of the Democratic party is trump's radical position on immigration and his opposition to the dream act. Well I say why haven't we shut down the federal government until Trump agrees to keep dreamers here? That would certainly get them to act fast. We may have to increase security measures on the border or even help build a fence later as a compromise, but the dreamers MUST stay. If the democrats want to be taken seriously, they need to have some fight in them!

Because shutting the government down over every single issue that divides Democrats from Republicans is not worth it. It's better to pick your battles in the long run, and I don't believe DACA is worthy to shut the government down over. When Republicans shut the government down in the fall of 2013 it wasn't looked upon too favorably.

I still do not understand why Democrats did not force a shutdown to ensure that the Bush tax cuts would expire.

Cause shutdowns are a terrible idea for any issue.

I remember being really disappointed when Democrats gave in over the Bush Tax cuts when they were about to expire instead of forcing them to expire by forcing a shutdown.

Me too. It would have completely destroyed the Dem image in the minds of the public.

Yes, it wasn't looked upon favorably when it first happened. But guess what, in 2014, they still won control of the u.s. senate, gained in the house, and even gained governorships despite having a numerous amount to defend. So it didn't really hurt them politically.
