Given the constant controversy and doubts swirling around President Trump, corruption allegations against former top Trump campaign and administration officials, Russian involvement with top Trump people, sexual assault and harassment charges, speculation that he will not last as President for this full term, do you believe that Vice President Pence is, privately, laying the groundwork for his Presidential administration?

Please discuss.

Trump would rather destroy America for not giving him the praise his ego feels it deserves than step down and be loyal to someone

No. Barring a sudden heart attack or something, anything that removes Trump from office will also remove Pence.

Probably. I mean, 2024 is just around the corner, after all.

Honestly, I think that every vice president thinks about assuming the presidency and questions related to that; like what would be his policies or how would the administration look like. Of course, no vice president talks about that publically if at all.

Who's betting Kasich is having a constant butthurt because of not accepting the VP nod?

I'm not so sure about that.  Pence is clearly a good Christian who would not do something he deemed morally wrong.

Even in the best of circumstances, it'd be irresponsible for the VP of a 71-year-old to not think about this.

Trump has one of the worst diets of all time, lives on four hours of sleep a day, and is a rageaholic in a way that's probably not good for his blood pressure.

Yeah, Pence probably spends every day wondering if it's the one when he'll get a call about Trump having too much KFC and tumbling over.

My own take is that yes, Vice President Pence goes over in his mind his plans for a transition and for his administration.

But Pence is a smart and savvy politician, and he understands politics and government.

So Pence leaves no paper trail of this behind.

Exactly. Obviously it's something Pence has thought about before. Just look to how he offered to take the top spot on the ticket in 2016 after the Access Hollywood tape broke. Now that Trump is President, Pence, for obvious reasons, can't actively come out against Trump or make it look like he doubts his leadership. Still, I think deep down, Pence knows that he would be a much better, effective, and stately president than Trump.

Maybe, but he's also probably wary of the possibility of him going down with Trump.

God I hope not (though yeah, I hope in vain,). The man is the VP of an illegitimate, disastrous, disgusting, and incredibly dangerous President - yet somehow, I'm more scared of Pence in terms of policy, and the effectiveness of implementing them (better relations with a Republican Congress, for one).

Hopefully he is convicted of treason along w/Trump and the rest of that lot and put away for life in a Supermax. But again: I hope in vain.

Are you seriously saying Christians don't commit sins?

(Not that I think Pence [or Trump for that matter] is guilty of Russia collusion, but you never know what someone is capable of doing)

It's interesting to me how low a profile Pence has kept.  After the election, some people thought Pence would be very involved in running things, and Trump wouldn't do much.  But Pence has been almost invisible.

No, I'm not saying that.  I just think he would follow his morality in that situation, so (while I think both are clean), I am far more certain of Pence's innocence than Trump's.

It's almost like he's ashamed to be part of the Trump Administration (not that I think he is). Maybe he just doesn't like the constant boot-licking his boss demands?
