Church versus Reagan in 1976

Reagan defeats Ford in the GOP primary while Frank Church manages to win the Democratic nomination. Reagan still picks Schweiker for the VP slot. I think Church goes with a Southerner.

Why?  Church would be an excellent fit for getting high turnout in the Bay Area and LA. He's perfectly in tune with the anti-war left that even more of a presence than the military. It'd be like Humphrey...except not losing LA.

And Montana and Louisiana are very Democratic downballot at this point. Church is practically a native son for Montana, and Carter would probably seal the deal down in Louisiana.
