Tribalism in politics is getting pretty bad(on both sides)

Smiley both sides do it Smiley

Smiley dems would support a pedophile too even though they never did but they definitely would i know it just believe me both sides do it Smiley

The Democratic Caucus elected Rep. Gerry Studds (D-MA) Chairman of the Merchant Marine and Fisheries Committee in the late 1980s AFTER he was revealed to have had sex with a 17 year old male Congressional Page.

Studds, by the way, was never contrite about this.  He was censured, but he never apologized.

And before you minimize this plum, this particular committee assignment was one that Studds focused on for his entire career, due to the importance of the matters dealt with by the Committee on Merchant Marine and Fisheries in the lives of the residents of Studds' coastal Massachusetts district.

Uh, the age of consent in Massachusetts is 16. Not that what he did is right, but it isn't remotely comparable to Moore's pedophilia.

Because he's done a better job than Hillary or Jeb (the favorites before he transformed the race) would have done by far. Twitter antics aside, he just came back from a successful Asia tour. It appears he'll get a tax cut passed. He already made record cuts to regulation and caused the stock market to reach record highs. Illegal immigration and unemployment are down to the lowest they've been in years. He (so far) hasn't invaded any third world countries to oust their dictators and create a power vacuum for terrorism to grow in (unlike his Nobel Peace Prize winning predecessor - Libya sure is better off now with its thriving slave trade than under Gaddafi, right?). ISIS is almost completely destroyed in Iraq and Syria. Companies are investing more money in America. I wish he had fulfilled his promise to repeal DACA on day one, but Jeb, Hillary, Kasich, Rubio, etc would have actively pushed for an even bigger amnesty bill, so I accept Trump as the best of several bad options. If he can just follow his instincts and not get manipulated into being Bush 3.0 by his advisers and Mitch McConnell, Trump should be a very good president.

Studds did this in Washington, DC, not in Massachusetts.  And he did this to a 17 year old who was (A) a minor, and (B) someone whose welfare was the responsibility of the House of Representatives, as he was a Congressional Page.  I would argue that the betrayal of trust is as egregious as Moore's.

People use the word "pedophile" and "pedophilia" freely, but that's not an accurate description.  While what Moore did, if he were charged and convicted as a sex offender, would be a sexual offense for which he'd have to register in most states, "pedophilia" is a term that applies to adults having perverse sexual attractions to prepubescent children.  This is one example of folks, in these discussions, throwing around terms freely, without regard to facts.  If Moore actually did what he did to this woman when she was 14 years old, it would be pretty reprehensible, and he'd be thanking God every night for the Statute of Limitations.  But what Studds did is shameless; he had a legal responsibility to that young man's welfare and he abused it.
