Ryan's conservative wonkiness and focus on entitlement reform makes him perform worse than Trump in the rust belt, but he over-performs in states with more establishment-friendly GOP voters, such as VA, NH, and CO. Combine this with a slew of gaffes from the Democratic candidate (Pelosi isn't always great with words), and you have a pretty solid Republican victory.
