"SALT LAKE CITY — President Trump is expected to announce a historic reduction to Bears Ears National Monument on Monday, a sprawling region of red rock canyons in Utah that has been at the center of a national fight over how much land a president can legally set aside for protection."

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/12/04/us/trump-bears-ears.html?ribbon-ad-idx=5&src=trending&module=Ribbon&version=origin&region=Header&action=click&contentCollection=Trending&pgtype=article

--

Orrin Hatch said that this would be a “win for everyone.” This is a terrible decision but one that will be fought in the courts for years, potentially going to SCOTUS over how much authority does the executive have to enlarge or shrink national monuments post the decision to make them. Also, this is an oil and gas exploration move, so it will get huge pushback by environmentalists. Teddy Roosevelt is rolling over in his grave.

Googled federal land in Utah and this popped up http://modernsurvivalblog.com/government-gone-wild/map-showing-stunning-extent-of-federal-controlled-land/

"That said, you might want to research the United Nation’s ‘Agenda 21’ to discover more about the U.N. vision for the rest of us with regards to many things including our private lands and their desire to move us from the rural areas into the city regions. By the way, our current Executive Branch fully supports this agenda and has been implementing executive orders to enable favorable actions in this regard."

I am sure it is related to the "Agenda 21" conspiracy to "take our lands!, etc." Backers of this conspiracy are truly are idiots of the worst kind.

Bears Ears National Monument was made protected on December 28th, 2016, by lame duck President Obama.

I just thought it was worth pointing out that this area has been a national monument for under a year.

Even if it is just a conspiracy, it's not like it's a bad one to support.

This is inevitably going to get tied up in the courts before it goes through, and its something that I'm sure can be easily reversed once this administration is done and before many companies have acted upon it if it succeeds in court, but despicable nonetheless.

So, since Trump's been President for less than a year, can we just undo that, too?

Industry must be weighed with public lands conservation. Libs just want stuff to appear out of thin air but cry wolf when they see what it takes to support society

Disgusting. I tend to believe he just wants to destroy President Obama's legacy. Like a bullying sandcastle destroyer.

Looks like the profit margin has to go down a bit from record levels instead. You'd rather pollute to make sh**t and make the earth unlivable, then somehow blame actual Democrats for it. Doesn't work the way you kids think.

I had never heard of this monument so I thought this was a plan to shrink the ears on bears by 90% through some sort of genetic modification. Needless to say I was VERY disappointed upon entering this thread.

I read this headline as a QUITE ambitious promise from President Trump that he was going to shrink the ears of America's bears ... and it wasn't totally unbelievable that he'd promise such a thing.

Anyway, this is bad.

So, basically Trump found something that had be done by Obama and he just had to undo it. It's almost pathological at this point.

Those record profit margins help support good blue collar jobs, something we direly need. This isn't Yosemite, it's literally a desert. look at the early 20th century for how we developed this nation, it's something your high school probably won't cover

If this is supported by the people of Utah, and I assume it is, it really should be their decision. It isn’t like it’s some longstanding Park like Yellowstone or something. There’s still more protected land at bears ears than two years ago.

I read somewhere (I think that Politico article about keeping Romney out of the Senate) that this was something Hatch wanted. This could be a ploy to keep Hatch in the Senate and his column.

That "desert" is sacred land that we stole from Native people. Instead of asking for it completely back, they pushed for it to be made into a national monument, and for a short while, it actually seemed like we'd do well by them for once. But, within a week of talking about how "very special" the Navajo code-talkers are, Mr. Trump decides to go against the wishes of the Navajo Nation on this.

You will read all about the expansive growth due to natural resources in your high school history books. Chances are you won't get a whole lot about Native history.

In addition, we don't "need" blue-collar jobs. The unemployment rate is extremely low, and we actually are running into labor shortages, especially around blue-collar jobs. Utah: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/05/21/us/politics/utah-economy-jobs.html
"Despite demand, 60% of contractors reported difficulty finding skilled workers in the third quarter of 2017 due to an ongoing skilled labor shortage." http://fortune.com/2017/09/18/hurricane-maria-hurricane-jose-construction-jobs/
http://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/economy-budget/335896-workers-wanted-skilled-labor-shortage-hinders-business

So, yeah. Don't give me that crap. Jobs are doing well, and destroying sacred land wouldn't help even if more jobs were needed.

I hadn't paid this much attention to this either, so I was thinking it was promise to make the next bear market less severe.
