Yay, purge all the horrible Texans!

Sadly their replacements will probably somehow end up being worse.

Would be an uphill battle but I think Dems can be competitive here. Trump only got 54% here...

Doubtful. I grew up in that part of Houston and it's all petroleum engineers and oilfield equipment salesmen driving F-150s.

But it got absolutely demolished in Hurricane Harvey, so if a Democrat is going to run there, they should make disaster relief an issue.

This is my boyfriend's congressional district. Needless to say, giving him the news about Poe was one of my day's many, many highlights.

Does this make 29 GOP house retirements so far in total?

No, 24 Republicans in the House are not running for re-election. Plenty are running for another office.

I think this is the kind of district that would be the most likely for a Dem upset out of nowhere if VA 2017 turnout patterns translated nationally.  That having been said, the college whites in TX-02 are largely petroleum engineers, not federal and state employees.  A lot is riding on whether the college white trend to the left will reach traditionally conservative professions, like the trend right with non-college whites has now reached traditionally liberal unionized labor.  It could be the deciding factor in 2020.
