In 2011, a plot coordinated by al-queda to assassinate President Barack Obama is successful, and Vice President Biden ascends to the presidency. Many similar events to the Obama administration occur, during the Biden administration, including the assassination of Bin Laden. Another notable event is the passage of a gun control bill soon after the Obama assassination occurred. Biden easily wins the nomination unopposed, and chooses Evan Bayh as his running mate.

Meanwhile, on the Republican side, Mitt Romney declines to run in 2012 for an unknown reason. Thus, Former Senator Rick Santorum picks up the nomination relatively easily, only losing some southern states to Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich. He chooses New Jersey Governor Chris Christie as his running mate.

What is the result of these circumstances? Would Biden win in a landslide, or will Santorum do better than Romney? Discuss and include maps. Bonus: what would congress look like?

Biden/Bayh:  402 EVs
Santorum/Christie:  136 EVs

Obama's Assassination combined with Santorum being a complete nut and Biden/Bayh being a great ticket, it's a complete rout.

Biden would hammer Santorum in the presidential debates and Christie would do likewise to Bayh. Biden would win by a record post-Cold War margin.
