Glad to see the first of my bills (iirc) coming onto the floor. This just serves to outline and expressly protect the right to protest, assemble and petition the government (as the US Constitution protects under the 1st amendment IRL). It also expressly allows freedom of speech to cover civil disobedience.

This is exactly why it's good to pass this.

Looks like the Southern people will be voting on at least one amendment this next election.

I'm calling a final vote. Delegates have 48 hours.

AYE

I'm interested in hearing your reasoning for that, but voting against protection for free speech and expression doesn't look good on paper.

It has the potential to be stretched to unpractical lengths. More than once in my life I've seen a riot go down as a 'peaceful protest' or a 'demonstration'.

A riot is literally NOT a peaceful protest?

Exactly. And yet, you're still going to have people claim a riot was just a 'peaceful protest'.

Yes, and I can claim my laptop is an elephant but that doesn't make it one.

Proving your laptop isn't an elephant is much easier than proving that a protest turned violent.

Even so, to quote Blackstone, "it is better that ten guilty persons escape than that one innocent suffer."

With 3 votes in favor and 1 against, the amendment passes.
