If President Barack Obama had fired Robert Mueller, the F.B.I. Director nominated by President Bush 43 and recommended by then-A.G. John Ashcroft, what would the reaction be?

Yes. May 2009. However, Obama is not under investigation. He just randomly fires him.

I think people would be pretty mad if Obama fired an FBI director who was investigating him for collusion with a hostile foriegn government just as the investigation was going somewhere.
