I don’t have a proposal written up, (because I’m not exactly sure how it would be worded,) but after visiting Canada I realized how far superior the Metric and Celsius systems are to the Imperial and Fahrenheit systems.  Could someone in the Senate introduce a Metric Conversion bill for me?

See this is what Canada does to people. I think the Senate should make it illegal to go to that liberal pinko commie hellhole known as Canada. Tongue

I'll agree with you on metric but I actually believe Fahrenheit is a better system than celsius. The only problem with metric is it doesn't have a foot equivalent, nobody uses decimeters.

I don't think we should switch to the Metric system.  Also, Fahrenheit pwnz Celcius.

Actually, the foot is about halfway in-between the meter and the decimeter.  One foot is about a third of a meter, and about three decimeters.

Officially, we have already converted to the metric system. The Metric Conversion Act was passed in 1975.

I don't see, however, how we can force private industries to convert. All conversion would have to be voluntary; but, as 30 years of "voluntary conversion" under the Metric Conversion Act and other laws have shown, it doesn't really work.

We've been on the metric system since 1866.

Just remember to use the following legally defined exact conversion factors:

    1 mile =  1.609 344 km
    1 yard = 914.4 mm
    1 foot = 304.8 mm
    1 inch = 25.4 mm

    1 pound (avoirdupois) = 453.592 37 g
    1 ounce (avoirdupois) = 28.349 523 125 g
    1 pound (troy) = 373.241 721 6 g
    1 ounce (troy) = 31.103 476 8 g
    1 grain = 64.798 91 mg

    1 gallon = 3.785 411 784 L
    1 quart (liquid) = 946.352 946 mL
    1 pint (liquid) = 473.176 473 mL
    1 cup = 236.588 236 5 mL
    1 ounce (liquid) = 29.573 529 562 5 mL

    1 bushel = 35.239 070 166 88 L
    1 peck = 8.809 767 541 72 L
    1 quart (dry) = 1.101 220 942 715 L
    1 pint (dry) = 550.610 471 357 5 mL

Keep Atlasia special, retain the imperial system!

Technically, we were never on the Imperial system.  The Imperial system used totally different volume units and there were small differences (noticable only at high tolerances) between the U.S. and Imperial measures for length and weight until we compromised on the international foot and international pound in 1959.

Imperial systems suck....switch to the more logical metric system.  At least on road signs and cars and whatnot.

You kind of missed the boat when we elected a Canadian as President. Wink

we use feet and inches, occasionally, and mainly to describe someone's height. The metric system works better for business and stuff, though. Thats why all US architectural firms, for example, only ever use metric; builders are usually the same, etc etc.

After we start measuring things correctly, we need to start spelling them correctly, too!  Centre and colour all the way! Smiley

both center ans centre are acceptable Wink

I'll even accept 'color', but some words just look silly without the 'u', and lose their impact; like 'valour' and 'honour'.

I'm a Canadian who was born and raised on the Metric system and the British spelling of words, and even I think that this is one case where the Americans got it right.  I always use the more phonetic spelling because, personally, it makes more sense to me.

myeh. When I say "Valour", I include a very slight dipthong between the o and u sound. Kind of like 'law'.

Well, I'm not Australian, and I pronounce it simply "VAL-ur".  Personally, I like to keep things as simple as possible, and I see absolutely no reason to have that U there.

That's great, but I'm afraid that "ans" is UNACCEPTABLE as a spelling of "and"
