So, rumor has it that DeMint is out at Heritage and Bannon is a possible replacement, in a move orchestrated by Trump to get Bannon out of the White House gracefully. After word of this got out, Trump singled out DeMint for praise during a speech. DeMint would bring impeccable conservative credentials, as a former Tea Partyish senator and former head of the most influential conservative think tank in the country. He could also serve as an excellent liason between the Senate and the White House, as Priebus and Pence are for the House. I haven't seen anyone discuss this as a possibility, but it seems to me like a smart move.

Why on earth would Heritage foundation want Bannon? They are extremely right-wing on economic issues (including trade) while Bannon is an economic nationalist.

I'm not sure what I would think about it if it were true. While I would love to see Bannon out and replaced with DeMint (I don't like the tea party but they are much better than the alt-right) I would be extremely worried to see a rather influential (and extremely hackish) conservative think tank being taken over by Bannon.

Heritage cares about money, and it's hard to raise money as a conservative think tank if you're seen as hostile to the incumbent Republican administration (however conservative it is or is not).

DeMint isn't on the Trump Train, so he's getting shown the door. Heritage sure as hell isn't going to hire Bannon, but they are going to go with someone who is more Trump-friendly (i.e. not a Tea Party True Believer).

2 things

1) the bannon thing was a joke by chris wallace.

2) demint seems to be out, yeah....cause he clashed too often with heritage action chief mike needham and his master, who is now said to be acting interim president of heritage.

As weird as this might seem, it is sort of consistent with the general path American conservative politics has taken lately. Hopefully it isn't true, though.

I would love to have DeMint in the administration, but I would hate to see The Heritage Foundation (which has a very special place in my heart) go downhill by bringing in someone like Bannon.  I've heard that Ed Fuelner would take over on an interim basis if DeMint goes and that Michael Needham would be a frontrunner for the full-time job.

I can see why Trump would be interested in DeMint, but why would DeMint want to be in any administration? He functions best as a gadfly, not as part of a team.

The Heritage Foundation isn't actually about espousing "conservative ideology," it's about writing position papers that the Koch Brothers and other funders like.

So, while reflective of modern American conservative ideological outlooks, Bannon is a bad fit for Heritage.
