REPORTER VOWS TO 'KILL SELF' IF CHENEY RUNS FOR PRESIDENT
Thu Jul 28 2005 15:32:13 ET

Veteran wire reporter Helen Thomas is vowing to 'kill herself' if Dick Cheney announces he is running for president.

The newspaper HILL first reported the startling claim on Thursday.

"The day Dick Cheney is going to run for president, I'll kill myself," she told the HILL. "All we need is one more liar."

Thomas added, "I think he'd like to run, but it would be a sad day for the country if he does."

This is from Drudge, but I figure someone may have a copy of the Hill around.

If so, for the sake of an improvement in the pool of US journalists, Cheney might have to run.

Maybe they'll replace her with a cuter reporter.

^^^^^  We can only hope that she carries out her promise better than Alec Baldwin carried out his.  I never wanted Cheney to run before, but now I do. Smiley

Helen said that because she knows full well Cheney will not be running.

That dear, sweet woman.  Dramatics has gotten the best of her, methinks.  She must have been desperate for a story.

And someone's paying her for this??

Oh, the irony of it all!!

GOP compatriots, join me in arms in asking Cheney NOT to run. As fun as liberal spiting may be at times we do seem to be throwing ourselves into the briar patch. If we nominate Cheney we will nominate an octogenarian-like albeit experienced deadweight who most of the country dislikes and who anyone but Hillary could beat in a walk. From Wyoming too.

I'll pass. Thomas can live.

I haven't got the slightest cue about who Helen Thomas is, but seeing a reporter wince in embarassment as another reminds her of her promise to kill herself - that'd be well worth watching. Smiley Plus, if Cheney does run, I'm fairly certain he will get the nomination...and that he will lose the general against any decentish democrat.

Ol' Helen is the AP (?) wire girl in the White House press room.  She hates the President beause she used to be able to finish off every press conference and the President ended that tradition.  Never knew she was this angry, though, and even if I think she should've kept the job this is just crazy talk.

Wiki is your friend!

And we do not need to nominate Cheney, he just needs to annouce a run.  All he does is announce his candidacy, Thomas kills herself or gets a ton of egg on her face, Cheney dropsout.

An 84-year-old planning to kill herself?  Seems kind of ironic to me.

If she's going to kill herself anyway, she might as well do a suicide bombing at the next press conference.

Say do you think the Police State just read that?

The elderly make up the largest contingent of suicides

Well I'd be more than satisfied if she'd just retire. Smiley And agree to not come out of it.

Drudge is flashing the following:

XXXXX DRUDGE REPORT XXXXX SUN JULY 31, 2005 19:44:05 ET XXXXX

HELEN THOMAS ANGRY AFTER 'KILL SELF' OVER CHENEY COMMENTS PUBLISHED

White House press doyenne Helen Thomas is plenty peeved at her longtime friend Albert Eisele, editor of THE HILL newspaper in Washington, D.C.

In a column this week headlined "Reporter: Cheney's Not Presidential Material," Eisele quoted Thomas as saying "The day Dick Cheney is going to run for president, I'll kill myself. All we need is one more liar."

Thomas also said: "I think he'd like to run, but it would be a sad day for the country if he does," according to Eisele's column.

But Thomas said yesterday at the White House that her comments to Eisele were for his ears only. "I'll never talk to a reporter again!" Thomas was overheard saying.

"We were just talking -- I was ranting -- and he wrote about it. That isn't right. We all say stuff we don't want printed," Thomas said.

But Eisele said that when he called Thomas, "I assume she knew that we were on the record."

"She's obviously very upset about it, but it was a small item -- until Drudge picked it up and broadcast it across the universe," Eisele said.

Still, he noted that reporters aren't that happy when the tables are turned. "Nobody has thinner skin than reporters," Eisele said with a laugh.

This whole thing brings up some interesting metaphysical questions:

If she is never going to talk to reporters again, can she talk to herself?

Can she thinkaloud?

Can she think to herself?

Can she ask a reporter wearing a big hat with fruit on it to move so she can see the President at press conferences?

She doesn't seem to understand . . . if you say anything out loud while within the beltway, it's on the record . . . if you want it to be or not.
