Not referring to any specific action, but it is worth mentioning that just because Republicans did [whatever] over the past 8 years on the road back to power doesn't mean it is automatically a smart or even viable idea. They made their own mistakes, and in the process of doing so helped make the political environment toxic as well.

Given how obsessed with power at any costs the Republican Party has become, I can't say I'm eager for my party to replicate their behavior in full.

Sanity. Nothing is more off putting about a political party than spending 8 years saying the other side is literally Hitler for doing x, y, and z, then immediately doing x, y, and z when the tables turn. I fail to see how i am to believe that one group is bad for doing something, which then somehow justifies the accuser doing the exact same thing on a flimsy excuse of "buh they did it furst". Either its wrong and shouldnt be done at all, or its completely partisan bickering and i shouldnt  be expected to be mad in the first place.

"Trump is bad." That's basically all you need for a midterm.

So basically:

Why the hell should they just say "Trump is bad"? That didn't work in 2016, it's not gonna work in a midterm. At the very least, say "all Republican politicians are bad" and that's better.

The goal of the Democrats in 2018 should be to boost Millennials turnout, and I think the only way they're gonna do that is by embracing Sanders as an unofficial leader, and run candidates with more progressive views. So their message should be universal healthcare, a $15/hour min. wage and free college.

1. Nationalize the election
2. Write a list of very policy proposals down and run on it.
3. Run against Trump

Republican candidate X voted with Donald Trump and his extreme, dangerous agenda 99% of the time. A vote for X is a vote for Donald Trump.

Emphasize how Donald Trump has betrayed his supporters and 'Donald Trump-for the elites, not for you.'

Democrats should not confuse 2018 with 2010. The Republicans won a lot of white working class conservative districts that had been Republican in the 2000s. To win 2018 the Democrats will need to win a bunch of these places too. They're obviously more pro Trump than his polling and will obviously be harder for Democrats to win.

The message needs to be about how Democrats can deliver relief from neoliberal policies that have failed this segment of the electorate and how Trump's a typical neoliberal president. Focusing on the scandals will steel their resolve to vote Republican but may in the end being down Trumpy in 2019 -- but at the cost of a Dem House.
