In his last presidential press conference, some picked up that Obama said a couple times that he wasn't planning on running for office again "anytime soon," speculating that he might have the nascent idea in his head that as a still relatively young man that he might want to pull a John Quincy Adams in a few years.

So, if he does run for office again... which office, and which state or city?

Senator? Congressman (like JQA, in the people's house)? Governor? Mayor?

Illinois? Hawaii? New York? California? Massachusetts? D.C.? NYC? Chicago?

He won't. I think the only "office" he would even consider would be as a supreme court justice.

It would be a step down so why do that?

He can't run for President again so if he wanted to, he could seek some office to stay politically engaged (like John Quincy Adams serving in the House after his presidency) but Obama doesn't want to do that.

The only one I could see would be Governor of Illinois as a "people need me to save the state" kinda thing, and he'd get to be an executive with a more friendly congress.  I don't really see him doing that though.

I could see it. Personally, I would live to see him on the SCOTUS.

It's not a step down, even though many think it. Obama doing this would challenge that thinking, which is good.

And he's shown he'd like to stay engaged with public, and he isn't personally drawn to appointed offices but believes in the elected office. He's a young man, at an age when most people begin their elected careers.

If a Berniecrat gets elected within the next decade, I could see him/her appointing Obama to SCOTUS.

I doubt any but if he did run I am guessing Governor of Illinois. If he were to get in politics it is much more likely as a Supreme Court Justice.

He will be making too much money on the speaking circuit, on corporate boards, and as a member of think tanks to be bothered seeking elective or appointed public office again.

Prime Minister, because we might have a parliamentary system within eight years.

Or President of the New United States, because the US as we know it might not exist within 4-12 years.

President in 2024 when Trump's ploy to repeal the 22nd Amendment backfires hilariously.

Senator Durbin's term is up in 2020 and Durbin will be 76 so he could certainly decide to retire. I think it's unlikely Obama would want to re-join the Senate but we can't rule it out completely.

I doubt he runs for office again, he can make too much money from public speaking and book deals. Besides he never had much interest in the Senate when he was a member

Because people with money can't be bothered to run for office?  Granted, I think Trump considerably inflates his net worth, but I've never doubted that he actually does have a positive net worth.

He should move to Minnesota and run for Governor in 2018, and since Minnesota doesn't have term limits should continue to serve as Governor for the rest of his life!

I honestly wouldn't be surprised if a Democratic President will nominate him to the Supreme Court. The though of that honestly scares me.

Certainly the wealthy run for office.  John F Kennedy, Nelson Rockefeller, Donald Trump and many more.

And some of the wealthy are the best public representatives.

But with Obama, my own personal belief is that he will not be seeking another elected office, although, if he did, he would be very good at it.  He is obviously brilliant and gifted.

But I guess we should remember that William Howard Taft, as a former President, was appointed to the Supreme Court.

As well, I take Michelle Obama at her word when she says she will not be running for any office.
