Her criticisms of Donald Trump's rhetoric targeting minorities and immigrants, and his horrendous mocking of a disabled reporter, all of which deserve constant criticism, were applause worthy. However, for Meryl Streep, the epitome of Hollywood elitism and snobbishness, to come forth and proclaim "oh, woe is us" regarding the real (and not entirely undeserved) vilification of the Hollywood social scene is annoying. Yes, the entertainment industry is often laudably inclusive of minorities and immigrants (although there are still some real struggles with inequality), but it is not some endangered, underprivileged group. They fear whom, exactly? I'd wager their venom would be primarily directed at "rednecks" and "white trash" who "simply don't get us."

Hollywood is out of touch. They live a lifestyle that is incompatible with the social justice they often proclaim from their elegant pulpits. So no, I don't care what Meryl Streep had to say. I appreciate the performances that her and those in her industry do to express themselves and entertain us, but she can stop the "woe is us, the unimaginably rich and famous" shtick.

Um, the whole point of the speech was to remind the people in the room that although they are vilified, they occupy important and enormous pedestals of influence, from which they should continue to acknowledge their privilege, align themselves with those who are more vulnerable, and hold bullsh-t to account. No "woe is us," except to acknowledge that it's kind of sh-tty to be some of the only rich people in the country who actually align themselves with progressive causes, but then get shat on by the hicks and rubes who are more content to shoot themselves in the foot with Donald Trump.

Oh no, there goes Hagrid talking about hicks and rubes!

They'll learn their lesson yet.

Pretentious snobs, such as yourself, are the primary reason the Democratic Party has hemorrhaged seats and have been labeled elitists. What do you know about these so-called "hicks and rubes"? How do you know they voted against their self-interest? What makes you think you somehow know better than them? Yeah, we get it, you probably come from an affluent, coastal, urban/suburban background and spout social justice style rhetoric, assuming the role of the benevolent guardian of minorities against the evil, racist white peasants from the hinterlands. You're not unique; just yet another liberal whose primary political passion is status signalling and employing your rudimentary introductory-level college derived knowledge to belittle others with your blatant classism.

You think you're doing good, but you're not. Classism is no better than racism or any other obnoxious form of prejudice by someone with privilege. So please - just stop.

My girlfriend loves Meryl Streep and hates Donald Trump.

To be honest, Donald should keep it shut.

By replying to her comments via Twitter, it defines him.

A definition which he will later regret.

he's right about Streep being an overrated actress (even she has admitted it).

Yet she's won best actress twice, along with best supporting actress and a slew of other nominations for best actress.

Overrated is relative I guess.

No, you stupidly rich and stupidly famous are NOT victims.  How dense and out of touch can you be?
And as much as I hate Trump, he's right about Streep being an overrated actress (even she has admitted it).

Right or wrong, it's clear that the only reason he's saying it is jealousy. The only award he's won is a Golden Raspberry.

He has definitely changed his tune on Streep. It must've really irked him to be insulted by one of his favorite actors.
