I'm sorry if I missed a thread that discusses this topic, but I didn't see one...

Do you think Catherine Cortez Masto could be a viable candidate in 2020? I see a lot of talk about Kamala Harris (who I really do like), but not much of a discussion about Masto. They are both the same age, both served as Attorney General in their states, and were both just sworn into the Senate. Masto seems like she could be a rising star in the Democratic Party.

I would be slightly hesitant about a Cortez Masto candidacy, however, simply because she holds a senate seat in a swing state. The Democratic bench is thin (hence why Dean Heller doesn't have an obvious challenger at this point), so I'd personally like to see Masto stay in her Senate seat for awhile. And I imagine Harry Reid would be upset if she ran for president, because he worked hard to get her elected to his seat. So I suppose I doubt she runs for President, but think she could potentially be a good candidate if she decided she wanted to.

Well she wouldn't give her seat up by running for President, and honestly her seat will be vulnerable in 2022 no matter what, especially witn a Democrat in the White House. It depends a lot on who the Governor is, how the 2018 Senate race turns out, who comtrols the statewide offices, and whether Kihuen and Rosen are still in the House. I think it's too early to declare that the bench in 2020 will be thin in Nevada.
