Which President(s) do you think was/were the most "corporatist" and least "corporatist" in our nation's history?  Figured this would be an interesting debate, as it will be very subjective.

Define corporatist.

I guess, pro-big business?

Most: William McKinley (R-Ohio). Guy ran basically as the first major big business candidate in 1896 and that election was the seminal battle between unions and the corporations. McKinley, of course, won twice.

Least: Franklin D. Roosevelt (D-N.Y). Pretty progressive, railed against business interests, and raised their taxes. Of course, he also saved capitalism, so eh. He's also the closest to a populist president that we've had, or dare I say "socialist."

Would also add T. Roosevelt as another nomination for the least.

That's why I put it in quotes.  Seems to mean a lot of different things to a lot of different people.

RE: Santender, as for Obama, he's not a corporatist, LOL.  You know how when people say "conservative Democrat," they mean "conservative FOR A DEMOCRAT"?  I'd say the same logic applies.

Most: Either of W. Bush, Clinton, Harding, or Coolidge

Least: idk, FDR? There aren't very many anti-corporate Presidents.

It depends if corporatism is defined as simply "pro-Goldman Sachs" or actual Mussolini style fascism. If it's the former, the clear winner is the Clintons. Bill and Hillary might as well put on a tube top and a mini skirt and walk up and down Wall Street, stopping only to stick their exposed legs out in the streets.

Jackson is a pretty good pick, if only because of his adamant opposition to the banks - which really was to a fault.

Under the most corporatist - one I think people are forgetting is Benjamin Harrison.

Obama was probably the most corporatist, mainly by virtue of chronology. Government and corporations are bigger and more complex now than ever, and they support one another more than ever.

The least? No idea, but Andrew Jackson comes to mind.

My personal picks would be Grant, Harrison, McKinley, Harding or Eisenhower for most and Jackson, Wilson, FDR or Truman for least.

I am not sure who is most. But both FDR & Teddy Roosevelt (Republican) were not corporatist!

"Corporatism" has about a myriad definitions, most of which are not only divergent but mutually exclusive. You're gonna have to explain what you mean.
