What if Senator Sherrod Brown(D-OH) was the 2020 Democratic nominee? How would Brown do against President Trump? Brown is a populist, and has been against the trade agreements, and he would have more appeal to Rust Belt voters. He's also from Ohio and could help win back the Rust Belt for the Democrats. He is to the left of Hillary. However, he could also be too far to the left to appeal to swing voters (might lead to more college-educated whites voting for Trump) and I doubt he would be that appealing to minorities. Plus, I'm not sure how charismatic he is. What do you think? Would Sherrod Brown be able to win in 2020? Thoughts?

He has to win reelection first. Then we can talk.

And Republicans will spend a lot of corporate money to get this guy out of his seat, so it'll be kinda tough.

He can do it since it will be a midterm year so bad for Republicans who are in power and Ohio is not a fully red state

I could see some arguments for him. He's a progressive favorite from a politically useful area.

The upside is that he can be a younger, more reasonable midwestern Bernie Sanders.

The downside is that he hasn't made much of a national impact. He could just be seen as a bland elderly white guy who has held elected office for 40+ years.

He has to win reelection first. Then we can talk.
Midterms tend to go well for the party out of the White House.

If we are going to nominate someone who supported Hillary in the primary, he makes the most sense. He wasn't some foaming at the mouth Hillary hack and he isn't a Wall Street stooge.

He's been incredibly Shermanesque about it in the past. He's also a Senator more focused on policy than public notoriety.

Doesn't mean that that won't change, but both are pretty strong indications he's not interested.
