A lot would have had to happen for Joe Biden to win the primary. Assuming nothing changes in response on the GOP side.

Hillary doesn't run
Beau Biden doesn't die (sadly, this pushed Joe out)
Sanders loses Iowa by a lot, and narrowly wins NH
Obama endorses by Super Tuesday
Primary effectively over by mid-March
Sanders endorses in April
No Bernie Bros
No DNC scandals
VP Klobuchar (Gillibrand, Stabenow)
Biden goes populist

Assuming all of the above occur, then Joe Biden is, in my opinion, the favorite to beat Donald Trump, not only because a ton of the people Hillary activated against her would have been fine with him, but because a lot of the GOP would have felt more safe opposing Trump with Biden as the opponent.

He'd have a very good shot at holding WI, MI, and certainly PA (Scranton et. al) and probably also wins FL. Not sure he wins in a landslide, but he probably does hold the White House.

Probably. But remember that the two times he actually ran for president, both his campaigns were miserable failures.

True, but he was a young Senator the first time and a dark horse, behind two stars, the second time.  This time, he'd have been a sitting VP and a top-shelf superstar.

He'd have beaten Trump.

This election was a PERSONAL repudiation of Hillary Clinton.  She should take her defeat personally; it was as personal a defeat as it gets.

For a segment of Trump supporters, that's true, but not the majority of the populace, who she after all won.

Absolutely. This election wouldn't even have been close. Biden is a straight talking, folksy, but experienced Democrat.

Yes, Biden would have won.
If the amount of votes were exactly the same, except for the possibility that 1 out of 100 (1%) trump supporters would vote for Biden instead, then Florida, Pennsylvania, Michigan and Wisconsin would have been won by the Dems.

That is not a difficult task. Biden would not have had the baggage that Clinton had, and in my opinion, he could have easily persuaded at least 1% more trumpists to his side.

Yes, Joe Biden was the one candidate the Dems could and should have run who scared me the most. He would have had the best chance against Trump and probably would have won. A Biden / Warren ticket would have been difficult for Trump / Pence to beat. Luckily they rigged it and handed it to Corrupt Hillary Smiley

Biden/Sanders would have been the ideal ticket: yes, two old white men, but this matters a lot less than people think. Biden doesn't have any of Clinton's overwhelming personal negatives. He never forgot where he came from and knows how to talk to the white working class, and though the establishments of both parties like to call him a gaffe machine, to working class voters of all races, it makes him look more genuine if he says what he's really thinking.

An added benefit is that while Clinton wasn't able to go after Trump on "Grab 'em by the P[inks]y" because of Bill's past behavior, Biden, who's been at the forefront of fighting rape culture, would be much more credible here, despite being a man. This again matters less than Beltway Democratic Strategists think.

Yes absolutely.

- Trump's advantage as a "straight talking", anti-"political correctness" voice would have vanished against Biden. Biden shoots from the hip but without the mean, misogynistic tone of Trump and would have ripped him apart in the debates over his comments.
- With Trump's endless scandals and nasty comments the election would be framed around decency vs indecency. This happened only to a limited extent with HRC because Trump could always point towards Bill Clinton, the FBI Investigation, Clinton Foundation etc.  Whatever his flaws, Biden is a decent man with a clean reputation.
- Biden would perform much better with the white working class in the Mid West and almost certainly hold Pennsylvania.
- Biden may have sense to pick a far more exciting running mate to reframe the election than Tim Kaine.
- The country has been deeply divided during Obama and Biden's tenure but they are held in much higher regard and popularity than Hillary Clinton.

- There's no doubt that Biden would be criticised for being too old, erratic, and not presidential enough, but against Trump's weaknesses and with the advantages above he would win.

He won a razor-thin victory in the EC while losing the popular vote. In no way was the result inevitable.
