I know I often tend to piss on anyone asking stupid questions like this that attempt to impose any form of rationality on political views, but I'm just absolutely perplexed. Like, if you take any sort of "boilerplate" "conservative" position--outside of abortion, let's say, due to the difficulties of birthing in combat--and that battle has either been already lost, or there's a way to conform women fighting on the front lines to it. Most obviously, "women should be raising children"? Well, that battle's already lost. My own take? If you're concerned over "attacks" on masculinity or people being "wimps" (I have no idea what's censored in this place) well then what better way to fix that by inverting that and raising the entire nation to be a warrior class, and not just the men. After all, if your greatest fear is immigrants or "criminals" overrunning the family farm, surely the wife ought to also know how to use a gun in case the husband dies in the line of combat. And, if you're one of the alt right effs who thinks women are institutionally advantaged or whatever, wouldn't the best way to get back at them be seeing them die alongside our boys over in some desert? I mean, you even see the same logic applied above when your suburban redneck friends post videos about how cool it would be to have a girlfriend who wears camo hats with deer logos and knows how to shoot guns. This is something I've never really gotten beyond any sort of assumption of inherent sexism (on the part of males) or abject selfishness (on the part of women) in its opponents.

Historically, the idea that it is unfeminine is definitely a major factor.

Today, I think the major concern is women are unfit for combat. The thing is, some women can handle major combat roles and I think those women deserve the opportunity to assume those roles. I agree with you that there is no point opposing this now.

So I'm not opposed to women in combat, but the thought of women POWs getting raped by our enemies bothers me. I know it could happen to men too and that also bothers me, but I feel like it would be more likely against women POWs. I still think that any woman who can pass the physical requirements should be allowed in combat, but that fear lingers in the back of my mind whenever the issue comes up.

I mean this is a fair point but you don't sign up for the infantry without knowing there's a risk for death, injury, perhaps torture and in this unfortunate scenario rape. One would hope this hypothetical woman Warrier enters with both eyes open

They're far more likely to be raped by 'friendlies' than enemies.

Who is to say that our enemies don't rape our male soldiers for example? I haven't heard a single incident of it happening throughout the course of the Afghan War, but this is the country whose most famous cultural tradition in the west is "dancing boys."

Of course, the Taliban partially rose to power as an anti-pedophilia movement. I don't think they're the enemies to worry about when it comes to GI's being sodomized.

I don't know to be honest. If they can pass the same physical and mental tests as everyone else, why not let them serve in combat?
