Nah, Trump is not capable of such complex thought. A better analysis would be Muslims=bad. Hindus against Muslims. Hindus=good.

This is definitely how it has always come off to me. Now as for the motivations of those pushing him to take this approach (Bannon and his people, most likely), that may be more of an open question.
