It seems like this election season, Virginia politicians really are on the radar.

Jim Gilmore made a failed run for president. Terry McAuliffe got attention for trying to give ex-convicts the right to vote. Bob McDonnell's conviction got overturned. Randy Forbes lost a primary to replace Scott Rigell. Tim Kaine got selected to be Hillary Clinton's running mate.

What is going on or am I seeing a pattern that doesn't actually exist?

Most political journalists work in DC, and Virginia is their backyard. So it gets written about a lot.

It's similar to why ESPN loves Boston + New York sports teams.
