... a hurricane (let's call it Hermine) ripped through the Florida panhandle and SE Georgia just before election day? Both areas are decidely Republican, and a low voter turnout in those parts could tip the state-wide vote to the Democrats. Would the voters in those counties get a do-over a couple of weeks later, or could the state legislatures simply appoint the Republican slate to the Electoral College?
I don't know if hurricanes could even occur in November (Superstorm Sandy, anyone?) but it would be interesting to see what could happen in that scenario.
