Madison + Van Buren > Lincoln + LBJ

Shorter Presidents tend to be more above average, while taller Presidents are either very great or very bad.

5'11" looks to be the median, so that.

In all seriousness, the only bad Presidents under five ten are Jimmy Carter and Millard Fillmore. Meanwhile, James Buchanan, Andrew Jackson, and Lyndon Johnson are all on the taller side, alongside Lincoln and Washington.

I meant what I said, even if the way I said it was somewhat tongue in cheek.

If Trump is elected he will be one of the tallest Presidents ever. (As tall as Bill Clinton and Franklin Roosevelt).

If Clinton is elected she will be one of the shortest Presidents ever, (167 cm to be exact, therefore the 2nd shortest in history.)

Just an interesting fact.

Not surprising, since she is a woman.

Tough to go against Lincoln, Johnson, Jefferson, Washington, Arthur, FDR.  That's a murderer's row, 3/4 of Mt. Rushmore + the two most transformative presidents of the 21st century, and Chester A. Arthur.

We've got some good short presidents too though.  Madison, McKinley, JQ Adams, Polk, Truman are all tier-2 presidents.

I guess the real lesson is to take a short or a tall one, not a middling-height one.  Most of our worst presidents were around 5'10.

Of note:  At 167cm, Hillary would be the second-shortest president of all time after Madison, while Trump is tied for fourth-tallest with Washington at 188cm.

I would say tall Presidents are the best, considering every great President has been on the taller side.

(If you look at the Wikipedia article, the shorter Presidents are actually more obscure.)

Though, part of it is that modern day men are taller on average than 18th century and 19th century men, (Napoleon was considered average height for his time).

Madison is possibly more responsible for our government and our long enduring existence moreso than any other President. Sure, Washington and Lincoln held our country together, but Madison played a unique role in our history that I'm not sure any other man could have.

I mean, it is pretty remarkable that the United States was still a country by the end of his presidency in spite of his best efforts, but I don't think he should get points for that.
