Well-researched outreach in the largest Mormon newspaper.

That was actually way better than a lot of her stump speeches.

This is an excellent editorial, unfortunately the Mormons disagree fundamentally with her on so many social issues that she's unlikely to gain their votes.

Love Hillary or hate Hillary, she's definitely a brilliant politicker.  Nice to see the 50-state strategy making a comeback.  (Though her remarks on West Virginia were unfortunate no matter what IceSpear says otherwise.)

And the point isn't whether Clinton will win Utah, but that she can win Utah and expand her support beyond coastal cities.

Hillary is unlikely to win Utah, but if she can win some of the Mormons (or they conveniently forgot to vote for Trump), she has better shot with other states that have significant Mormon population.

This is actually happening. If somebody had told me years ago that Democrats would be targeting Mormon voters...

6% of population in Arizona and Nevada and probably more than that % in the electorate...

The Clinton campaign isn't shying away from going after what should be part of the GOP base. Right after the DNC she and Kaine went on a bus tour of OH, PA and IA and they focused on messages and areas high in non-college whites. They seem to assume they have the non-whites and they have done all they can to get the white liberal Bernie left at the DNC and so they are working the middle and even working the center right.

On a NYT podcast this week Newt Gingrich was talked about how he is trying to convince Trump to get out of his echo chamber and go into inner city black areas and try to shake things up there and at least make a play for their votes. It will be interesting to see if Trump will try. Trump has made some plays for Bernie people but the Bernie or Busters seem more interested in Stein and Johnson.

Only a good strategy if it's strictly controlled, in my opinion. Those videos of Romney trying to ham it up with urban youth are still laughable years later. The appeal would be better by giving black supporters for Trump like Diamond/Silk more of a spotlight.

Apparently someone at Clinton campaign is following Atlas Smiley :

While Trump may have some characteristics similar to some of the founders of LDS (the Mormon Church), he could not be more different from what LDS stands for today. Most of Trump's outlandish ideas go against the ethics and morality of the church.  Since the 70s and the "corporization" of LDS, their values are even less congruent with someone like Trump. And since over 50% of UT is in the church (I believe that only SLC and Park City have non-Mormon majorities), his loss there would not be a huge surprise.

However, I do not think Libertarians can win, just split the Republican vote. If anything, this is an opportunity for UT to get some relevance in Democratic policy making - if there ever was a chance for the Democrats to be relevant in UT, this is it. If Clinton has true leadership abilities, she should be able to capitalize on this.

Not sure why they have that big lobe extending down into California there. Eastern Oregon has significantly more Mormons as a percentage of population than almost any part of California.
