From the blatant plagiarism in Melania's speech, to Cruz punking Trump at his own convention...not to mention whatever else happens in the next two days...what do you think will be the general response and feel of voters?

Will there be any convention bounce at all at this point?

He'll probably get a slight bounce if tomorrow goes relatively smoothly. If there's plagiarism in Trump's speech, though, he'll get a negative bounce.

It may make it easier for Clinton to erase his gains after the DNC. This was a great time to put on a show and bash Clinton non-stop, and again, he somehow blew it, or more like his campaign showing us that whenever Trump can muster up a few days without negative drama, they are right there to pick up the slack and create some for him.

I highly doubt the bounce will be negative. The only question is whether either or both bounces are minuscule or significant at this point. 2012 was underwhelming for both parties, IIRC.

The other variable is that this convention is staged a lot earlier than normal for a Republican convention than those in the TV era in part because of the timing of the Rio Olympics.

The last one this early in the cycle was in 1980.

I am not sure what effect, if any, that will have in 2016.

Unsupportive republicans and undecided independents will begin to take a good hard look at Donald Trump, so in that sense, mission accomplished.

Even though regular people don't watch conventions obsessively like Atlas Posters do, they do help shape narratives and news coverage, which are far more important. Despite the Melania plagiarism episode and the Cruz non-endorsement, I still expect Trump to get at least a small convention bounce, mainly from Religious Righters coming on board.

They already were on board as of June, according to this Pew poll:
