I have a tooth that I've decided needs to come out. It's not at the point where it's unbearable or honestly even more than noticeably uncomfortable and is quite easily treatable with over the counter products but I've been down this road before to know that once a tooth gets to this point, it'll only get worse, not better. It already has half of it badly decayed, and is effectively useless since it's way in the back and its corresponding tooth on the bottom jaw has also already been removed (the only other tooth I've ever had pulled. Only one extraction and one root canal/crown at 32 ain't too bad honestly)

My normal dentist is awesome but in cases like this that's actually a problem: He's so popular he's usually solidly booked two weeks in advance. Emergency dental places I've been to before, but they can be more expensive, even with insurance. I know an extraction isn't an insanely expensive operation even without insurance (about $200 plus $50 for the x-rays), but I am trying to conserve money in general here. I know that dental schools will do it for very cheap and even free, and the University of Minnesota one is actually pretty well renowned. And while I'm not sure if I'd trust a student dentist with a complex procedure, this wouldn't be one. So I just have to ask: How does it go? Are they usually open during the summer (U of M site seems to imply that it is)? Easy to book with?

Another benefit I can see is not trying to upsell you on other operations.

Yes, I went to the University of Louisville dental school once when I was dating a student there. It was basically like a regular dental clinic except it was cheaper and it took slightly longer. The facilities were decent and I had no problem getting a booking. I didn't go during the summer, but I'm pretty sure it is open all year.
