Only the fringes of the web seem to be really saying much about this book. So, real truth to it or well-timed hit piece for book sales?  Could really show Hillary could be a lot worse than Donald.

Infowars, and OLD. There was a book by a former Secret Service agent that bashed all the Democrats and praised all the Republicans, while claiming to be nonpartisan, about 8 years ago too.

Well any secret service agent who writes a tell-all of any kind is automatically a man without honor or integrity, so I'd assume they're not going to be a very reliable source on anything.

The book became #1 on Amazon after it was featured as the top headline on the Drudge Report.  There was also an article about the book in today's New York Post.  Contrary to the original post, this hasn't been limited just to the fringes of the web.  (And no, I don't want to hear nonsense about how one of the top 150 U.S. websites is a fringe website just because you don't agree with its politics.)

I think those Kitty Kelly books were also top sellers. We Americans sure do love our trashy novels.

According to quantcast, Drudge is #155, right above Salon at #156. And I wouldn't say a website's modest popularity relative to all other sites excludes it from being a "fringe website," especially when it still gets less than 3% of the US population in "people per month". 3% can absolutely constitute a fringe faction. So I don't want to hear this nonsense about how it "can't possibly be a fringe website because ermagherd it gets more hits than cvs.com" just because you agree with its politics (see, I can build a strawman, too).

Alexa has Drudge Report at 136 in the U.S., just above the main websites for NBC News and ABC News.  It is one of the few websites that can cause a book to shoot from 60,000 to 1 on Amazon without breaking a sweat.  It is far from a fringe website, and actually has some influence in the media world.

It's a fringe website because it utterly lacks even a pretense of accuracy or integrity.

Again, none of what you said precludes it from being a fringe website. As Runeghost noted, it's fringe because it espouses fringe positions. As I said before, 3% of the US population per month does not guarantee "mainstream" status.
