1. Pataki
2. Christie
3. Trump
4. Bush
5. Kasich
6. Graham
7. Paul
8. Fiorina
9. Gilmore
10. Huckabee
11. Rubio
12. Walker
13. Carson
14. Perry
15. Santorum
16. Jindal
17. Cruz

Basically goes from Moderates -> Establishment/Reaganites -> Tea Partiers. Trump, Paul, Huckabee and Santorum are hard to place in this ranking.

[1] Kasich (by default)
[2] Trump
[3] Cruz

Not even going to bother with all of the people who are no longer in the race.

17. Walker

10-17 are pretty much indistinguishable, even if they have different focuses.  Paul and Trump really don't fit into the list, because their ideology is hard to measure (in Paul's case) or possibly nonexistent (Trump).

I would vote in the following order (factoring in everything, including electability):

WOULD BE EXCELLENT
1. Walker
2. Rubio
3. Cruz
4. Santorum
5. Perry
6. Fiorina
7. Jindal
8. Carson

WOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM VOTING FOR
9. Huckabee
10. Gilmore

WOULD BE ACCEPTABLE NOMINEES, I GUESS
11. Bush
12. Kasich
13. Christie

WOULD NOT BE ACCEPTABLE NOMINEES
14. Paul
15. Graham

WOULD DEFINITELY NOT BE AN ACCEPTABLE NOMINEE
16. Trump

I WOULD HAVE TO VOTE THIRD PARTY
17. Pataki

Christie's the least conservative or one of the least conservative despite the fact that he was openly campaigning on cutting entitlements....ookay. Don't get me wrong...I lost respect for the man when he endorsed Trump, but he was my candidate for awhile, and I'm pretty conservative.

Took the political matrix test for the three candidates still in the race. These are the scores I got:

Trump (-0.77, 2.43)
Cruz (7.48, 3.83)
Kasich (4.39, 3.13)

Curious, I think Trump's a liberal, but he's only the 6th most liberal on my list, and I apparently think he's the most conservative relatively speaking.

This is at the start of the race, as some people had to change their opinions during the primaries.

He was borderline for unacceptable and acceptable, but not preferred.  I am not particularly libertarian, so I have major problems with him on issues like drugs and the NSA.

I think if Cruz actually took it, his scores would be far higher than +7,+4.

Good point. I didn't put down any issues as serious, so that could be it.

It's worth pointing out that as recently as 1996, the only candidates whose views would have been viewed as acceptable for a mainstream Republican are Jeb Bush and George Pataki.

All the others are more comparable to Gary Bauer, Phil Gramm, Alan Keyes and other people who were total fringe candidates back then.
