I agree with the demographics, closed primary, home state points. I'd add that I think Sanders's attacks on the Democratic Party, and even Wall Street may have rubbed some New Yorkers the wrong way, as if he was questioning New York's legitimacy as a power-broker, economic hub, and liberal power house.

Jews, blacks and the monied. As to the latter, see the vote on the Upper East Side.

Not just the UES. Nearly every "middle-class" (keeping in mind that middle-class means something different in Manhattan and Brooklyn than it does in most of the country) white neighborhood was a Clinton rout. Sanders really only won gentrifiers and working class whites. Look at Harlem and Bedstuy; he did better in gentrifying minority neighborhoods than he did in white liberal neighborhoods.

It's not all demographics, though. She did much better in young hipster white areas than in similar areas of Chicago. Likely the home state effect.

None of these. Demographics are destiny.
I actually agree with you; does that scare you?
(although I wasn't actually going to use the word "demographics"; I would have said, it was her best area and had nothing to do with any of the nine options)

Not that it affected the results, but it is interesting how well Sanders did in most (much smaller) counties. Obama only won Tompkins against her.

Closed primary, demographics and the fact that Hillary had strong links with all the Democratic politicians in NYC.

The Daily News interview, campaign surrogates etc. were marginal.

Sanders best demographic was Asians and he lost hispanics by the same margin he lost whites.

He lost because of wealthy whites + blacks.

They tied among whites and she won Latinos by a margin 2 to 1.

Better luck next time.

TheFree North is referring to NYC alone, not NYS.

Independents not being able to vote + Clinton home state + minorities.

These three factors served her very well in NYC.

Yep.

Also I wouldn't say she "crushed" sanders at all, she won by a smaller margin than Trump despite being in a two way race as opposed to Donald's three way race. Frankly I think she underpreformed, only winning a grand total of three upstate counties.

You guys are missing the point.  By demographics and the election setup, Bernie should have lost by single digits.

I mean, she defeated him by 27%, 63.4% to 36.6%. It was almost 2:1. So it was a "crushing" defeat.

In the city, if you look at the precinct map, Sanders did perform better in the predominantly Asian precincts. Latinos were closest to the citywide average at 65-35, and whites were slightly below average at 61-39.
