The horror of the GOP establishment is not about Trump's insults or dick jokes, it's about his repudiation of their platform on free trade, unlimited immigration, military interventionism, and Washington cronyism. I'm sure there are people who find him distasteful but if his positions were the same as Marco Rubio's the party establishment would be supporting him dick jokes or not. His election would bring to an end 20 years of Bush Republicanism and sideline a huge number of people who've become very comfortable in their particular perch. So much of the pushback is just the self-interest of the consultant/pundit/think tank/donor class masquerading as moral outrage.

A fantasy. The self-interest of the consultant/pundit/think tank/donor class is first and foremost to get elected, and if Trump had Rubio's views and all his other flaws, his crass style and lack of consistent and honest opinions would still be enough for the establishment to hate him.

It has nothing to do with his positions and alot more to do with the fact their influence would dwindle and so would their control over things.  Combine this with the fact they'll scared of how bad he'll do and they're panicking.

Trump is doing pretty good at getting elected, especially considering his own party is trying to stop him.

It seems to be lost on everyone that Marco Rubio positions are unelectable in a general election. The guy has repeatedly stated he opposes abortion with no exceptions, I cannot imagine that causing problems in the general election. This is Akin/Mourdoch territory.

Of course no one is paying attention to that right now, but you can bet Hillary would wrap that right around his neck.

The establishment has this false belief that its views are electable, as long as we sell out the nation's sovereignty to out compete with Hillary "I want to end forever the spectre of deportion" Clinton amongst Latinos (good luck with that by the way). If we just do that, people will buy hook, line and sinker more tax cuts, endless wars and an endless gravy train for varied corporate interests.

Take your pick:

He cannot be controlled
He is a self-interested egotistical billionaire
He is a narcissist
He cannot take criticism
He is unpredictable
He lies through his teeth
He will bring the reputation of the republican party into disrepute
His popularity will be guided towards his own self-interests
His fingers will be on the nuclear button
He will probably have North Korea wiped off the map
He answers to no one

Agreed. The GOP "establishment" is afraid of losing control, and Washington cronyism is important to those running the party politics in this country.

It has nothing to do with his positions and alot more to do with the fact their influence would dwindle and so would their control over things.  Combine this with the fact they'll scared of how bad he'll do and they're panicking.

Agree with this too. Again, it's about control; fortunately, these people can't control the American electorate.

There's also major concern about the ripples that Trump will cause in other races down the road, whether they be federal, state, or local.

I don't think it has to be either/or. It's likely a mixture of both.

Yes and No.

The establishment is concerned that Trump will act on his own and be a "loose cannon".  Given a choice, the party elders would always like to keep some control.  But, while they are afraid that they will lose influence, they are also afraid that Trump will be so divisive, that he will reshape the voting landscape to favor Democrats in the future.  In addition to that, Trump's obvious "make-it-up-as-you-go" strategy, views that can only be described as very moderate (or plain liberal), bombast and a reality TV approach to politics, coupled with a lack of serious governance experience is (rightfully) scaring the s..t out of them!  The dick jokes don't help either.

Mainly yes.

And because he is no puppet of special interests and he can not be controlled.
