The thing is with globalisation we essentially have global government already, expect a confusing and shadowy one headed by elite institutions.

Absolutely not (doesn't trust that much power in that centralised of a government)

A world government doesn't have to be centralised. Ideally power should be taken both upwards and downwards from national governments - why is it any better for someone in rural Queensland to be ruled by Genoa as opposed to Canberra?

Absolutely not. Even if I did support it, it is extremely optimistic to think this would actually work.

Literally something you could say about the creation of centralised nation-states to begin with.

No. The world is divided in nations. These nations should be living in nation-states. "One size fits all" doesn't work and isn't moral.

Except that nation states don't, and can't, fit around the contours of nations. Nations share boundaries too often; too many people have multiple national identities; and national identities are far too prone to change. After all, go back 150 years and there was no concept of being "Estonian" or "Slovakian".

The nation state is an outmoded concept that does far more damage than good.

Honestly, it's not that I don't want it because "MURICA". I don't want it because that's exactly how a dictatorship will start, and it won't be easy to get out of.

Why would you think that?

Why would you think that?

Some countries have better protections against dictatorship/ more individual rights to protect against dictatorship. Global government almost assuredly would involve compromises in structure as opposed to every other country leveling up to the maximum protections. Why should countries with more freedom give it up for the burdens of a global government? Especially one based an ocean away.

Of course. In the long run, it's the only workable solution to today's problems.
