Trump's big ego got hurt, when the audience booed him numerous times.
Trump lashes out at them, and attacks the audience.
This behavior is un-Presidential, and just makes him look like a big-baby (again).

Do you think it was smart for Trump to attack the audience during the debate ?

It's irrelevant, because all anyone will remember is the Rubio thing from the beginning. It wouldn't have hurt him anyway, though. He's the Teflon Don.

It won't hurt him because we need to dispel this fiction that Barack Obama doesn't know what he's doing.  He knows exactly what he's doing.

It was smart because no one refuted his assertion that access to the debate was controlled by the Donor Class.  Had someone successfully refuted that, it would have been YUGELY bad for Trump, but no one did.  Instead, Trump came off as sharing a dirty little secret with the TV audience that I'm sure they were interested in hearing.  The Donor Class is not on the A List of Trump's constituency, so his comments reinforced their preexisting beliefs in Trump as a guy who's addressing THEIR grievances.

As a party activist in the state, I can validate Trump's claim. He was spot on in his assertion, access was controlled by the party elites and donor class, pure and simple.

Pointing out to the public at large that the RNC had stacked the audience in studio against him was a very wise move in reaching to the public outside of the studio. It made the people in the chairs look like bought and sold hacks, and the RNC look biased. It's one of the better moves Trump's made.
