Japanese-American linguist who was Republican Senator from California from 1977-83. In all honesty, I had never heard of him until two minutes ago.

Sounds like an FF, even if he sounds fairly... implausible. We need more people like him in our Republican Party today! He even fought against the SJW college students of his day!

The last respectable California Republican to get far up the ladder.

Pity he gave it up and Wilson took over. Also a pity it was Deukemijian and not him who defeated Bradley.

Wouldn't vote for him ever, but still FF.

"Hayakawa was often favorite fodder for the news media reporters, every time he was found napping through important legislative voting"

Definitely a colorful character, which the Senate really needs more of. FF, even if I don't agree with his politics.

Okay, maybe Mike Johnson is a competent parliamentarian.

Not somebody I'd have voted for, but I feel a sort of kinship with him as somebody interested in academia, Japan, and language. FF.
