Important things:
Charisma/very right-wing compared to the party at the time: Cruz
Presidential/Reaganesque in character: Rubio

Less important things:
Second-place finisher last time: Santorum
Out of office for 14ish years at inauguration: Gilmore
Old: Trump
California: Fiorina
Liked by Michael Reagan: Kasich
Used to be Democrat: Carson
(Almost) Ran as Republican three cycles previously: Chafee

Trump also used to be a Democrat. And this far in, how are you still denying that Trump is charismatic? And Trump is charismatic with the same people Reagan was charismatic with white working class moderates. And Reagan race-baited like a mother - I mean he gave a speech in Philadelphia, Mississippi about States Rights. Trump is just taking his play book and making it his own.

And Trump even took Reagan's slogan - "Make America Great Again" is just one word away from "Let's Make America Great Again".

I only did one candidate per trait, and Carson's former liberalism came to mind before Trump's. Charisma is defined as "a special charm or appeal that causes people to feel attracted and excited by someone," which is certainly true of Trump. However, he's violated the 11th Commandment in a very big way, in my opinion bigger than most of the other candidates. He's also generally pessimistic, while the Gipper was big on optimism.

Reagan is probably the the most historically significant violator of the Eleventh Commandment--he almost primaried his own President! And whaddaya mean "out of office for 14 years"!? Reagan left office in January 1975 and took over the Presidency in January 1981. Check yer facts!

The "out of office" thing was a stupid mistake and will be fixed shortly. However, one could argue that the Eleventh Commandment was more about attacking candidates personally than pointing out policy differences, as he did with Gerald Ford in '76.

Cristie, Cruz, and Santorum. I looked at social issues and speaking ability.
Excellent choices.  I chose 2 of those 3.  My 3rd choice was Trump, mainly because Trump has a similar appeal with blue collar conservative voters.

None of them come close to Reagan's charisma. Reagan is a once in a generation man.

Intersting results so far. Trump is the winner and Carson has only one vote.

Both Trump and Reagan have that unflappable "Teflon candidate" quality.

None of the GOP candidates are close to Reagan as a politician.

ideologically? Probably Rubio or Paul
Keep telling yourself this. It does not make it any more true.
What DeadPrez said.

Rubio is the most like Nixon circa 1952.

His sons, like good children, want to preserve his father's phony legacy, not face the truth of it.

Ronald Reagan Jr. endorsed Bernie. Tongue

Why is Trump winning?

Trump and Reagan are nearly the exact opposite personality-wise. Reagan was soft and soothing. Trump is hardcore, angry, and (for a lack of a better word) loud. Not to mention that Reagan was pro-amnesty.
