The flag thing, however, is just baffling.

I'm sure many people in Switzerland speak English-- I've been there, so I should know-- but Switzerland is not usually considered as an English-speaking country. That is to say, it is not regarded as part of the English-speaking world.

For that matter, South Africa isn't really considered part of the Anglosphere either. Why not Australia and Israel?

No, it usually is. It was even considered a "White Dominion" despite... well, you know.
