Seems we have some old people here that think vidya games should only be played by children and adults shouldn't play them.  I'm curious, is playing solitaire on your PC while waiting for an email "playing a video game"?  Is Words With Friends with your sister a video game?  What about a trivia game on your phone?  Are video games different than more traditional games like board games somehow?  What if you're playing Monopoly on your PS3?  Or Risk on your phone?  I've run into you weirdos before but have never really gotten to why you think video games are only for children.  Seems strange to me.  Video games are just another form of entertainment, like movies/tv/stage, books, sport, etc.  Is it because it's interactive and you think art should just be viewed from afar?  Do you often complain about other forms of entertainment you don't approve of (like have you ever said "there is nothing good on TV these days" before), or are video games special?

Why the hell not? Some games are clearly intended for children, but others can be enjoyed just as much by adults. Some even have a plot that's more engaging and thought-provoking than many of those found in purportedly adult fiction.

"Video games are only for children"

If that's the case, why do I need to show my ID when I buy M rated games at GameStop? Tongue

That's weird.  Who has said that?  Huh

Edit: Actually this topic reminds me... Did any of you guys play Day of the Tentacle back in the day?  I grew up playing sh**t like that.  Anyway I only just discovered that it was recently remastered and re-released, so the other day I downloaded it and took the trip down memory lane.  Good times.

Though at one point the Mrs came in asked what the hell I was doing.  I swear if I had been watching foot fetish porn or whatever it'd have been less embarrassing.  Undecided

you see, joe republic, having not experiënced joy in decades, has come to the conclusion that it must be a zero-sum game, and that therefore, if he can siphon enough of it out of everyone else, he might rediscover it himself.

Guess it's not what I had in mind then. Tongue Either I have a dirty mind or this forum has trained me to expect the worst. Probably both.

I'd have thought it was clear by now that I am not and have never been a fan of Japanese cartoons.  Smiley

There's no medium (as opposed to genre) of entertainment that's inherently, by its nature as a medium, limited to one age group.
