I remember that there was no mention to politics in the Home Alone. So, let's use our imagination.

If this family existed in the real life, how would they have voted?

It is a white upper class family living in a suburb from Chicago. Maybe, they voted for the Republicans until 1988 and then, they voted for Clinton in 1992 and they kept voting for the Democrats after. I guess they would vote like the average of Illinois.
I think they would dislike the anti-France bias of the Republicans in the early 2000s.

Yes, the average suburban Chicagoan was really concerned about the anti-French bias.  HUH?

In 1990: strongly Republican

Now: mostly Democratic, with a few Republican votes here and there

Outside Cook County, Obama's vote ranged from 44-53% in Greater Chicago. That is, there's still a good sized GOP vote there. Combine that with the fact that said family was fairly well of, and I say they're probably still GOP.

Indeed.  The white vote for Obama wasn't that strong in the suburbs outside Cook County.

Obviously Republican.  The right to defend yourself from home invasion was paramount; meanwhile the baby boomer adults showed no regard for the next generation by literally abandoning it.

They forgot their child when departing for vacation.  Can they be anything other than libertarian?

I don't know, but I think the robbers were Democrats since they are bad and also they don't believe in property rights.

The anti-French bias still exists.  New Gingrich attacked Romney in 2012 for speaking French at the 2002 Winter Olympics.

And because Democrats are usually soft on crime.

How about Jeb's comment about the French work week in the last debate?

Feeling like I know the area (and the specific town from which they are from), I can guess.

1980: Reagan
1984: Reagan
1988: Bush
1992: Bush
1996: Clinton
2000: Bush
2004: Bush
2008: Obama
2012: Romney

I'd say they lean R federally and locally but will vote for the right Democrats.

Probably big fans of Mark Kirk and they also vote to re-elect Dick Durbin every time.

Voted for Rauner in 2014 but would probably break for Lisa Madigan if she challenged him in 2018.

Also, they were poor suburbanites. So, there's that.
